A guide to skin lesions, what they are, and what to do about them
Skin lesions come in many different forms. You have arrived at the right place, Krueger Aesthetics, for treatment that you can trust in Mukilteo and greater Seattle, Washington. Dr. Ronald A. Krueger is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of clinical expertise under his belt. You have peace of mind that your skin concern will be handled adeptly. The safety, health, and appearance of your skin are, in turn, in exceptional hands.
By definition, “lesions” refer to injured or damaged areas. As dermatology providers, we appreciate that individuals may wish for the removal of a lesion for any number of reasons. Notably, there may be concerns over the nature of that bothersome spot. A portion of the spot or area may be removed for further investigation. Of course, we will also want to detect any pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions as soon as possible. Early treatment is associated with a high “cure” rate, even among skin cancers considered deadly or aggressive (such as melanoma).
Patients may wish to remove even benign or non-cancerous lesions. After all, they can still detract from the overall appearance of your skin, especially if they are in highly visible areas of the face. Depending on the size of the lesion, it can be uncomfortable and rub up against clothes or other objects. On a day-to-day basis, we have successfully removed or improved the appearance of lesions not limited to the following:
- Pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, and other forms of acne
- Skin tags
- Cherry angiomas or red dots
These and other lesions are often associated with sun damage. So, we can discuss ways to protect the skin and prevent these problems from arising in the first place. In fact, a foundation of our practice is exceptional skin care, with Dr. Krueger going so far as to roll out his own line of high-quality KRx Medical products.
Getting into a habit of regular professional skin care checks is also vital. Watch for and act on any changes to moles, freckles, or other spots. These changes include lesions that grow larger, evolve in shape, contain several colors, or suddenly itch and bleed.
Just as there are numerous anomalies that can affect your skin, there are multiple ways to address and remove them. These techniques range from precise surgical excision to nonsurgical methods, such as mechanical, laser, and chemical resurfacing. We can also prescribe appropriate medications and products that really work to make a difference in the appearance and health of skin affected by lesions. As noted, it is critical to identify the lesion accurately and rule out skin cancers and other diseases associated with these skin problems. Accurate diagnoses inform effective treatment plans.
