Lesion “basics” 

By definition, “lesions” refer to injured or damaged areas. As dermatology providers, we appreciate that individuals may wish for the removal of a lesion for any number of reasons. Notably, there may be concerns over the nature of that bothersome spot. A portion of the spot or area may be removed for further investigation. Of course, we will also want to detect any pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions as soon as possible. Early treatment is associated with a high “cure” rate, even among skin cancers considered deadly or aggressive (such as melanoma).
