Skin care and laser technology are a powerful combination. Dr. Ronald Krueger is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon who takes an active interest in skin care – so much so that he and our talented nurse, Phyllis, developed a line of proprietary, medical-grade skincare products formulated with active ingredients. They found that the results from both surgical procedures, as well as nonsurgical treatments — from fillers to lasers –are amplified with the use of clinically-proven skincare products.
Speaking of laser technologies, our patients in and around Mukilteo, Washington, trust Dr. Krueger’s considerable knowledge and experience with laser-assisted procedures. In fact, his experience with laser technologies can be traced back to the 1990s. Since then, new laser systems and innovations upon earlier-generation technologies have been introduced.
We are happy to shed some light on the laser services available at our office.
The “K” is the symbol for the chemical element potassium, while the “T” and the “P” stand for “titanyl” and “phosphate.” Together, KTP makes up the crystal used as a medium for the laser device. This laser generates a wavelength of 532 nm, which makes it particularly good at preferentially targeting and absorbing blood vessels. Dr. Krueger may recommend KTP as an accurate and effective treatment for discolorations, such as red or dark spots caused by broken capillaries on the nose, cheeks, and chin. When combined with topicals, we may use the KTP laser to improve the diffuse redness of rosacea.
Additionally, this precision laser is tolerated well with little more than a cooling gel for comfort. Side effects are usually limited to redness (subsides in around ~ 12 hours), and you can get back to your active and busy schedule – no downtime!
A “best value” in treating many common signs of aging, a fractional (or fractionated or pixelated) CO2 laser can dramatically rejuvenate the face by creating thousands of narrow microchannels. These tiny columns are produced in a safe and predictable manner that stimulates healing; new firming collagen is produced. Think of 35% of the skin as coming back brand new.
As old, damaged tissue makes way for new, unblemished skin; patients notice considerable improvement in the appearance of their mottled, lined, wrinkled, and otherwise lackluster skin. Since these laser systems are highly customizable to account for factors such as the elasticity and overall skin quality, fractionated technologies are incredibly versatile. Sedation may be administered for enhanced comfort, and we can discuss healing, downtime, and recovery needs during your consultation.
A newer laser system that features fractionated technology, Clear + Brilliant® is also known as a “pigment-seeking” laser. It is an excellent option for patients who have visible signs of UV damage. It can be completed quickly (in around 30 minutes) and comfortably (with a numbing local anesthetic).
Since there is no downtime or lingering side effects, many patients like to use this procedure before a big event – such as a wedding, graduation, or reunion. This laser focuses on the damage from the sun and can reverse those changes to restore your skin’s healthy, beautiful radiance. Clear + Brilliant® is also a safe option for patients of all skin types, who may be suitable candidates for other, earlier-generation light-based systems.
